The final day has arrived so we thought we would make the most of it. For the past 4 days our morning routine included a brisk walking on Deck 3, read the Daily Programme, catch up with news on the television then breakfast.
When we woke and got up, we found some toiletries on the bathroom floor that had fallen due to last nights swells. Thankfully our sleep was not disturbed by the rough seas, perhaps even enhanced by the motion.
Queen Elizabeth arrived in the port of Hobart early in the morning, although we have been to Hobart before, our arrival by a cruise ship was a first and a truly memorable one. As the ship approached and maneuvered to its dedicated berth, we could smell and feel the cool air of Hobart, after all it was a chilly day at 14 degrees. Sydney may have been hot and sunny when we left but autumn had arrived in Hobart offering a pleasant change.
Beds proved to be very comfortable indeed, room remained dark thanks to good curtains, quiet and not too warm or cold just perfect for a restful nights sleep. Drawing the curtains and opening the balcony door revealed the weathers possible intentions, a big sky and vast open deep blue water, sunny with a light breeze, what a spectacular view.
It feels like a flashback now when we ventured out on a 5 night Tasmanian Cruise on board Queen Elizabeth, one of the luxurious cruise liners of the Cunard Line last March. Ports of call for this cruise included Hobart and her maiden visit to Port Arthur one of Australia’s important heritage and historical destinations. We had a grand 5 days on the high seas and land and I would like to share the details of our experience.
The first time we experienced the taste of Salt Grill by Luke Mangan was last year during our first cruise with Pacific Eden. Although you pay to dine here, this onboard restaurant is very popular, lunch and dinner reservations get fully booked within hours of boarding. Despite our attempt to book early, we ended up on the waiting list, which is the next best option as it usually pays off, thankfully the lovely staff were able to accommodate us for lunch and things even got better when Luke Mangan came to say hello at our table.
