The Meat & Wine Co opens in Parramatta

Located in the sophisticated Meriton Dining Precinct, Parramatta’s latest dining destination, The Meat & Wine Co brings a modern steakhouse to the area. A few weeks ago I was invited by FCBA (Food Critics and Bloggers Australia) to join them for an exclusive media dinner organised by The Meat & Wine Co to celebrate the opening of their latest branch in the heart of Parramatta.

The Meat & Wine Co

Boasting a cheery vibe, you’ll be charmed as you step inside the contemporary fit out with ambient lighting that flows around giving specific areas like the booths a cozy feel. The interior is warm and inviting offering diners a space equally suited for a group or that intimate dining destination. And wait till you see the eye-catching wine wall, it is very impressive indeed!

Tasting Menu:

A special tasting menu was created for the event, which consisted of the following: shared raw dishes, entree (2 to choose from), main (3 to choose from) and dessert (2 to choose from) along with carefully selected wines to be paired and designed to enhance and complement the flavours of the food. The dishes were served in stages.

Food:

Two long tables were set up in the semi private area of the restaurant. After a short welcome address by Mona Ibrahim, the first to arrive were the three raw offerings which hit the table simultaneously, giving each group on the long table a chance to taste each dish. Here are my tasting notes of the dishes that were served.

Whisky cured salmon

Eeny, meeney, miny moe, where to start, well I love raw dishes and I couldn’t help but to dig into the Wagyu tartare served with lavosh. Definitely this is a carnivore’s delight, I enjoyed the softness and the taste of the raw beef along with the savoury smoked yolk and green dressing. Like works of art on a plate, the shaved octopus with chive, peri and lemon is a wonderful dish. All the elements added a good touch to this seafood delight. Refreshing and zingy, the whisky cured salmon served with roe and cauliflower custard cream is packed with a flavourful punch, my favourite among the three. NV Mojo Pink Moscato was the recommended wine to be paired with these raw dishes.

Pork belly

For entree, I ordered chilli lime pork belly. Hands down to this dish, grilled to perfection, the meat is so tender, juicy and melts in your mouth. The adzuki bean, cos, puffed crackling, kimchi crumb and ponzu dressing added tons of flavour. It was a clean plate for me. Italian Sensi Pinot Grigio was paired to this delectable dish.

Wines for pairing

Monte is the premium line of beef exclusively sourced for the The Meat & Wine Co. Designed from paddock to plate through a multi-channel monitored program to ensure only the most top graded products are served. Monte cuts are grilled to your liking in their unique basting.

Monte – grain fed

And for main, I ordered the Monte grain fed fillet 200g with chips. Medium rare is my personal favourite when it comes to steak! Dribbling out juices at each knife cut, this pink-to-red centre is so tender giving a juicy mouthfeel, the best steak that I’ve ever had for a while. The chips are spot on, golden and crisp. I chose the Bleasdale ‘Second Innings’ Malbec from Langhorne Creek South Australia as the accompanying wine and what a pairing, simply a match made in heaven.

Creme brûlée

My course finished off with a sweet note of a classic creme brûlée with double coffee biscuits. The crisp burnt toppings and custard base flavoured are irresistible. What a night!
