Cloud Thief’s flagship restaurant opens in Sydney!

The anticipated flagship restaurant of Cloud Thief has finally opened in the heart of the City inside World Square along Liverpool St. Sydney. Bao Stop, the one we loved for years which offered revolutionised Taiwanese street food now has a new name and a new place to call home.

Matty and his team have worked tirelessly to perfect a new enhanced fusion menu which still includes some of the old all time favourites. The light filled split level dining area is inviting with a balance between a quirky feature-wall illustration and modern fit out. It has an open kitchen where you can see all the action as the team prepares your order.

The menu is displayed on screens above the counter where you’ll place your order for food and drinks. The venue is licensed so you can wash down your food with beer, cider or a gin and tonic (currently available at time of writing). After placing your order, you will received an electronic buzzer which will flash when your food is ready. The menu consists of Cloud Thief Classic Bao – any 2 classic bao for $13.00, Cloud Thief Premium Bao – each premium bao add extra $1.50, Rice Bowls – $12.50, Sides starts from $4, Side Sauces – $1.50 each and Beverages – from $3 including Cloud Thief Lager – $8.

There is an unfeigned pleasure to be had in things that feel just right and I’m referring to Cloud Thief baos. Those semi circular fluffy buns are very light, moist and bursting with a variety of fillings that tick all the flavour boxes. Try the Taiwanese spicy fried chicken served with Asian slaw, spring onion, bullhorn chilli and a spicy sriracha mayo, Beer Battered Barramundi fillet with Asian tartare sauce, crisp iceberg lettuce, red radish, wasabi pea and seaweed crumb, the succulent Singapore Soft Shell Crab in a light batter tossed with butter chilli sauce, topped with black beans, pickled mustard greens, Kewpie mayo, salted egg and spring onion to name just a few. The crowd pleaser, crispy golden fries topped with shredded Peking duck, smothered in Cloud Thief’s sauce and finished with spring onions, a perfect dish for sharing, only if you want to!

There are dishes available for vegetarians, check out the bowl of crispy silken tofu with a spicy peanut miso sauce, Asian slaw, shiitake mushrooms, crispy seaweed, red radish, shredded iceberg lettuce, enoki, crisp cucumber, topped with spring onion served on a brown rice base.

So why not pop in and check out Cloud Thief and enjoy their Bao buns and other delights, and who knows you might even spot the thief!
