Little Lily’s Wine and Tapas Cafe

Little Lily’s Wine and Tapas Cafe is tucked away in the beach side suburb of Little Bay in the Eastern suburbs. It is located on the ground floor of a modern complex which is part of the new Prince Henry Estate. A brain child between husband and wife, Jorke and Bronagh, who conceptualised the idea of providing a watering hole for locals and visitors, a place for catching up, laughs, coffee, drinks and good food.

This is our second visit to Little Lily’s, the place has an inviting vibe with a warm ambient feel, rustic deco, subtle lighting, high interior ceilings and a good alfresco dining space, it is becoming one of our favourite drinking and dining haunts.

The menu offers a modern flair of inspired dishes from around the world with a share plate style from lunch to dinner. The wine list is extensive including some carefully selected wines for dish pairing. Thursday night is the famous $10 cocktail which includes some classic and thirst quenching favourites.

An exciting way to start the evening was with the Fruitilla Tequila Surprise – $10/Thursday night and a 4 Pines Pale Ale – $9.50, both were a refreshing aperitif, and we enjoyed every sip while the sun was slowly disappearing.

dscn2191What we ordered:
Alex’s Roast Capsicum Bocconcini Arancini -$14
Garlic Prawns – $18
Just One Cornetto – $8

dscn2197The arancini balls were hand made by Alex, Little Lily’s chef. What we loved about these delicious balls, they were not over oily, the texture was crunchy on the outside and soft and buttery on the inside. The roasted capsicum, melted boccocini and parsely added a depth of flavour, while the mayo and parmesan provided a wonderful base to dip in to.

dscn2196The tomato sauce is another of Chef’s creations, smooth and rich, with notes of garlic and other herbs added to balance the acidity and enhance the flavours of the sauce, the prawns tasted fresh and tender. The artisan bread was warm, slightly crisp and toasted to golden with a nice crust.

If there is room for dessert, why not check out the luscious selection on offer. The two mini cones filled with lime ricotta are simply irresistible, (just one Cornetto on the menu) served with a strawberry coulis. Dip the strawberry into the coulis for an intense added sweetness to the fruit, a truly well balance dessert.
