Newtown Festival 2016

The Newtown Festival was back, bigger and better than before at last Sunday’s celebration at the Camperdown Memorial Park. The festival has turned the park into colourful display of market stalls, food extravaganza, bars, wine bars, stage shows and a big picnic area for everyone to enjoy a perfectly sunny day.

There were four spots at the festival for everyone to enjoy and discover, the Kids’ Zone, Newtown Local Business, Eco Village and Heart Zone. Market stalls were in abundance selling everything from souvenirs, Christmas gift ideas, clothing and jewelries.

The Kids’ zone was for the young and the young at heart . This was a place to play, sing along, carnival rides and some activities provided by Newtown Library. Foodie and drink haven is what you expect at the Newtown local business zone. Pop-up counters showcased affordable and tasty dishes and drinks along with heaps of independent food stalls there to take your order and cook before your very eyes.

Many familiar establishments were present, such as Black Star Pastry, Bloodwood, Brewtown Newtown, Continental Deli, Fleetwood Macchiato, N2 Extreme Gelato, For the Dandy in the Clos , Young Henry to name but a few. There were demonstrations all day at the Eco Village highlighting the importance of food and energy sustainability. The Heart Zone was the chill out pit stop, a living room where you can talk and meet some of the people behind Newtown Neighbourhood Centre. Guest speakers and exhibitions were also featured in this zone.

The Festival was presented by the Newtown Neighbourhood Centre, an organisation actively supporting the homeless in the inner west. I can’t wait what’s store in 2017!

Home is where the heart is…
